In the Herd: Equine Leadership Program
In the Herd is a unique, hands-on equine leadership program designed to help children build self esteem, confidence, and essential life skills through guided activities with horses. Participants do not ride the horses; instead, they engage in games, group challenges, and structured interactions that promote , self esteem, self awareness , autonomy, and positive decision making.
Through their work with the herd, students develop skills in
• self-awareness and self-esteem
• confidence, trust, and respect
• communication and listening
• relationship building and teamwork
• choice making and goal setting
• problem solving and appropriate assertiveness
• reading body language
• negotiation skills
• overcoming obstacles
• appreciation of others
Program Details
Who: Oak Ridge students ages 9 and up (maximum 10 participants)
When: Wednesdays from 2:00–4:00 PM, October 7– October 28th
Where: In the Herd Equine Facility, Quaker Meetinghouse Road, Forestdale
Transportation: Provided from Oak Ridge School to the facility; parents pick up on site at 4:00 PM
Cost: FREE, thanks to funding from the Town of Sandwich Opioid Funding- Prevention Youth Programming Initiative
This 4-week program offers students an empowering opportunity to learn, grow, and build confidence in a safe, supportive environment guided by experienced facilitators and the incredible teaching power of horses.
